FAQ

Q. How do I know if your products are safe for my child?
A. Our products pass or exceed all international standards for safety. This includes the way they work and their materials.  The sort of tests carried out on them include things like stretching the mug spouts to see if they break or tear, dropping them on hard surfaces to see if they break and also testing them to make sure that no nasty chemicals leach out from them into food.  We have been designing and manufacturing children’s products for over 40 years and have not had a single issue or recall of any of our products worldwide.

Q. I heard that BPA and phthalates are bad for babies. How can I be sure that your products don’t include these chemicals?
A. We don’t use any plastics which include BPA or phthalates. All of our products are tested to ensure safety.

Q. But who does your product testing?
A. All products are tested by internationally recognised testing houses and certified to meet the applicable international standards.

Q. I see that your spoon and fork are angled inwards. Is this better for a child than straight handles?
A. We designed the spoon and fork using a group of children between 1 and 3 years of age and modified and retested the shape until we came up with the current design. This we found was the best way to help a child hold cutlery easily and comfortably and to feed itself without too much food falling off the spoon.

Q. Why do I need to buy a knife, fork and spoon set for my child. Why can’t they keep using the spoon and fork until they are able to use adult utensils?
A. The spoon and fork is great as a first step towards independent feeding. But adult cutlery is hard for small hands to manipulate. To help your child get used to using knives and forks, our My First Cutlery Set is the ideal kids cutlery set as it allows them to eat like a grown up but with utensils which are shaped to compensate for their weak muscle control and coordination.  Also the spoon is a very different shape to the first stage spoon.  It helps a child to hold a spoon like an adult.

Q. But is your knife safe for a child?
A. Yes. Although it has a serrated edge to make it able to cut food, the end of the knife is rounded and not sharp making it the ideal first kids cutlery set.

Q. Why do you use stainless steel for the spoon bowls fork tines and knife in your cutlery set?
A. By using stainless steel we are able to create a product that has the ideal proportions and best functionality. The spoon bowls can be thin, the fork tines can be rounded while being functional and the blade of the knife can be slightly serrated to be able to cut food without being shape or able to cause any kind of injury.

Q. Do you sell gingerberry products in other countries outside Australia and New Zealand?
A. Not at the moment but we are always on the lookout for further distribution opportunities.

Q. How do I clean the products?
A. Our products are dishwasher safe, but we recommend hand washing them with mild soap and water to ensure longevity.

Q. Can I use these products for my baby's first solid foods?
A. Yes, our products are designed for babies who are transitioning to solid foods. The weaning bowl and weaning spoon is perfect for this stage as the bowl has two separate sections and the weaning spoon is soft on gums and the perfect size for small mouths.

A. Our products are designed to grow with your baby. The My First Solids Bowl and My First Feeding Spoons are perfect for starting solids. The My First Toddler Bowl and My First Fork and Spoon are perfect for babies who are learning to self-feed, while the My First Cutlery Set is perfect for toddlers and young children that are feeding themselves.

Q. Where are your products manufactured?
A. All our products are manufactured by us in China and not sourced, this ensuring total control, the highest quality and safety standards.

Q. How do I know if my baby is ready for solid foods?
A. Every baby is different, but most babies are ready to start solid foods around 6 months of age. Look for signs like sitting up with support, showing interest in what you're eating, and being able to swallow food without gagging.

Q. Are your products suitable for babies with special needs?
A. Yes, our products are designed to be inclusive and accessible for all babies, including those with special needs. Our My First Cutlery Set is often referenced by occupational therapists as a great product and one that will help children with limited mobility.

Q. How do I know if my baby is ready to transition from a spout to a straw cup?
A. Most babies are ready to transition to a straw cup between 9 and 12 months of age. Look for signs like being able to drink from a spout without sucking too hard and showing interest in using a straw cup.

Q. Do your sippy cups come with spare parts?
A. We all know that although toddlers should be drinking from the spouts or straws, they also love to use them as teething surfaces so for this reason we have included a replacement silicone spout and silicone straw in both our One and Two Cup Sets for your convenience.

Q. When should I replace the silicone straw or silicone spout?
A. The prolonged misuse of the silicone straw or silicone spout as a teething surface will cause increased wear on the part, therefore we suggest that it is best to visually inspect the straw and spout and replace either at the first sign of wear.

Q. How do your One and Two Cup sets grow with my child and what is the difference between the One and Two Cup Set?
A. The One Cup Set transitions from a straw cup to a spouted cup to a snack cup with removable handles. The Two Cup Set transitions from a big cup to a small cup, from a spouted cup to a straw cup, and from a snack cup to a travel pot. With removable handles removed for added convenience.

Q. How do the angles and finger grips on your cutlery sets help children to self-feed?
A. Our My First Spoon and Fork Set and our My First Cutlery Set are ergonomic and designed with angles and finger grips on the handles, which help children to self-feed as they lack the manual dexterity to use adult cutlery. The cutlery sets are also made from high-quality, durable materials that are designed to last and are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.

Q. Do your cups fit into car seat drink bottle holders?
A. Yes, the convenience of the One Cup Set and Two Cup Set having removable handles means that the base of the cup fits neatly into the drink holders in most baby & toddler car seats as well as most car cup holders.
